Marciano versus Quarry Thoughts?

Wait, he lasts like one round more than ****ell and Moore, 2 rounds more than Savold and LaStarza (inthe rematch), and 5 rounds less than Walcott and Charles?
Do you really think Foreman would have dodged Marciano? Do you think Lyle gets out-boxed? Does Sharves get dombed out in one round?
I don't recall Ali ever dropping Quarry. Both fights were stopped on cuts, but I doubt that would have been the result 20 years earlier (good for Jerry, I know). And the dude stood in the pocket w/ Frazier for 6 rounds.
I agree that Marciano has to overcome a rough start to pull out the win. But Quarry isn't getting stopped. He is better than anyone Marciano fought, and Marciano never fought anyone as good as Quarry did.
Quarry's quick counters and Marciano's generous openings are gonna mean The Rock needs a while to right the ship. The 10th round might be where the tide turns, but Quarry, while battered, definitely isn't broken.
I wouldn't be surprised if Quarry won their first going. Marciano did better in rematches, since he was a work in progress. (we probably never saw him at his best). But he wasn't ever going to have an easy time w/ Quarry.

Like Quarry Starza was not a big puncher, but a persistent pressure guy. Just for 5h1ts and giggles:
la Starza's stats: 66 fights 57 wins 27 by KO.
For Quarry: 66 fights 53 Wins 32 by KO
Very very similar stats above ...regarding chin? la Starza out of nine losses was Ko'ed twice and if memory serves right Chuvalo Koed Quarry.
Quarry fought much better comp and bigger punchers than Starza. he had a style which would trouble Marciano as well, we can see that from how Marciano dealt with La Starza.
With this in mind I would give this fight a little more possibility of being competative. Still the fight is Marciano's to lose, so to speak, Quarry, like La Starza could pressure and score but would have a problem hurting Marciano. We also have to consider that Jerry had whiskers and was hit by some of the best.
In a fifteen round contest Quarry gets beat in the championship rounds. Marciano's persistence pays off. In a twelve rounder it would be tougher for Marciano to start to dominate. I believe Jerry might even have a chance...
Good post. two thoughts:
1) lastarza didn't fight like Quarry. he definitely wasn't as good.
2) Quarry bungled the timing on the count. Chuvalo was going to lose that fight. The ref really should have exercised better discretion. Today, an immediate rematch would have been made.
Chuvalo was no Marciano, but he was a much bigger pressure fighter. He made it competitive, but Quarry was the better man. Not Quarry's opus by any means, but that KO cost him an all but deserved win.

Inevitable.
Rocky KO 3.
BTW, congratualtions on making Curtis Harper blush. That's quite the achievement. Picking Rocky by 3rd round KO (Savold lasted 8, and ****ell 9) was a deft touch.
I dunno how he'll counter... maybe by picking Mayweather to stop both of them? Whatever the case, as always, you set the bar for ridiculousness very high.

He does way better than anyone who actually fought Marciano. But I struggle to see him keep this fight from Marciano for enough rounds to win. Marciano was special.
YouTube the Shavers fight .
Chuvalo Fight.
Those guys had Granite chins.
This is a toss up fight .
Quarry level of competition is not even close .
Jerry had a great amateur career.
Gun to my head
Quarry by Dec.

Quarry would be a tough right for Rocky. I think Jerry would outbox him for long stretches but eventually get worn down and stopped in the championship rounds.
Quarry was a helluva fighter, but he came up short against the best of the best. I have no reason to believe this wouldn't happen against Marciano.
