Comments Thread For: Lerrone Richards Pumped For Return: I'm Excited To Show My Skills

Lerrone Richards has been notable by his absence over the past couple of years. The former European and IBO super middleweight champion has boxed just once since December 2021 when he earned a creditable but tight split decision over the dangerous Carlos Gongora.

There's no doubt he is a skilled boxer but he is an incredibly boring fighter that can't sell a ticket and that's why no promoters stick with him.

No good fighters are going to willingly fight him either because he's a very difficult guy to outbox, will drag you into a borefest that you may lose and he brings absolutely no money value.

He was European champ, then beat Gongora and was going up the rankings and how he's back on small show undercards. Very rare to see a fighter go backwards that far without even losing.

you just gave Richards more ink then the original write up they slipped into the forum -- i had to try and remember how this guy was and what he did if anything in the ring. Boring you know it, that is all i remember about him Gongora had one or two decent fights that showed heart that i watched but was mediocor at best in betweent hose bouts

IIRC, Matchroom was gonna put him on a Canelo undercard, but he didn't like the opponent (Akhmedov i think). I understand that fighting Akhmedov seemed like a step backwards because Gongora had already beaten him, but it's still a spot on the under-card of a cash cow. I think Matchroom was shielding guys like Richards/Okolie because their styles negatively impact their marquee value. It seems Richards overestimated his value a bit, and so let Matchroom let him go.
