      Indeed, if you comb La Porte’s Boxrec page, there’s no record of him ever being knocked down — not by Sánchez, or anyone else. Iron chin, for sure.

        Great list. Lots of fun looking at the brief descriptions of those listed. My two all-time favorite examples of granite chins are George Chuvalo and Kid Gavilan. One apparent mistake, however: I don’t believe Juan La Porte was ever off his feet.

          Indeed, an early draft was a little heavy on recency bias. The likes of Canelo Alvarez or Oleksandr Usyk tend to come to mind before Holman Williams or Gorilla Jones. In the end, we elected not to include active fighters, partly to make it easier to draw the line for inclusion, and partly because, as with assessing Hall-of-Fame credentials, it's generally a good idea to let a career play out in its entirety before making summary judgments. That said, Alvarez in particular seems destined for this list when he's done and could legitimately be miffed at missing the boat this time.​

            I would think this list should be followed up with an article refining it based on those that have never been knocked out and those that have never been knocked down!
            Although I have no dog in that fight, I always hated how everyone brought up Fury Getting knocked down by Cunningham. Getting knocked down is one thing, but having the ability to get up and shake it off and keep fighting is a totally different story. Those are true whiskers.
            I think of the monster shots that Vitali ate with zero change in posture or function and I can't think of a fighter that impressed me more in the category of chin. Those were monster punchers of 15 years ago and not the much smaller guys of the 50's and such!

              I love that the entertaining Ruslan Provodnikov made this list. The guy was not world class in talent, but he made the most of what he had and I swear he was made of granite.

              Golovkin, my man Tua, and the criminally underrated Glen Johnson were all great inclusions. A fun list.

                  Injust don’t like the subtle “Toney …. was never stopped and was only dropped twice, by Reggie Johnson and in a weight-drained loss to Roy Jones in 1994.”

                  Roy was coming up in weight so why try to discredit that win by saying Toney was “weight drained”?
                  Toney, (weight drained or not) or any other fighter in history was never going to beat that version of Roy at 168.
