    Drinking/smoking

Smoking, IMO is better than drinking although less socially acceptable. I'd rather drink in between fights a little bit (not even a lot of beer), than smoke all the time
how is smoking better then drinking? less harmful to the body? (probably answered my own question)

at least drinking doesn't turn you into a spaced out giggling food craving whatever

and yeah agreed, in addition to being more socially acceptable, drinking in moderation really isn't all that bad, and on top of it, it costs less (usually)

and it's an easier process (I'd think drinking would be easier to pull of then rolling a blunt for example)

no worry about side effects such as the bloodshot eyes/munchies

but back to the topic, did Hagler toke?

**and if i was a pro athlete I really wouldn't drink and or smoke .... i drink maybe 1 beer a week so it's not a horribly significant amount.

Well I think we are talking about moderate use here.

Like I said previously, if I was a pro athlete, and I let myself loose once a month and the choice was between hitting a vaporizer filled with some dank or drinking a mickey of vodka/rum Id choose the vaporizer.

I dont think anyone smokes a blunt before a fight, nor does anyone take a chug of JD before putting his robe on.

Alcohol is ****ing nasty man, I love it, but man its bad...The only reason we can drink is because we've been putting that **** into our body since time. We have evolved around alcohol, our bodies can finally take it. And again it depends on who....Im european, I can handel it, I know some Koreans who get knocked out after two coolers, knew this one African student who had allergic reactions to anything over 5.0%

Not true. Binge drinking also messes with your blood sugar levels which is why people crave that kebab or curry at the end of a night out. Rolling a blunt is quite simple once you get use to it. I would say the reason why smoking is worse for a boxer is because it does make you lazy. regular drinking does too, but smoking makes you docile and roverelaxed whereas sometimes drinking can in fact make you aggresive and hyper. I would say a drink or a smoke very 3 months is alright, but anything more than that is trouble.

as a fellow bud smoker and a competitive amatuer boxer, I smoke a lot when I take a break from boxing, but once the training starts I'm clean, maybe a toke or two every 2 weeks, this keeps my tolerance low and my high strong

That is good for you! My tolerence remains high (I fight at 178lbs and walk around at 185lbs) all the time so I keep the smokes few and far between for other reasons. A few tokes will not do anything to you, but make sure it is just that! I share an 1/8th with a mate every few months and it does not affect me at all. 4 times a year is hardly substance abuse! Alcohol intake is about the same.

A few years ago I spent 3 months working in insurance telesales. We use to have an 1/8th to a quart everyday (which made our sales go through the roof!) and it seriously affected my timing and my energy. I was getting lazy and docile so decided to have it once a week. That was too much. Once a month was pushing i too. it is idfferent for everyone but once a quarter, and light usage is about right for me. With drinking, I also keep it light and share a bottle of bubbly with a bird. Them student days of 40 shots of JD with lime and ice are long gone. As you get to your mid 20's, it starts affecting you more and you need to look after your body more.
