The WBC has approved a final elimination bout between junior flyweights Erick Badillo, 17-0 (8 KOs), of Mexico, and Gerardo Zapata, 15-2-1 (5 KOs), of Managua, Nicaragua, according to a press release from Badillo’s promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz.

Badillo is ranked No. 2 by the WBC, while Zapata is No. 8.

The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds and will be broadcast on Friday, July 11 on ProBox TV. (Disclosure: BoxingScene and ProBox TV are both owned by Garry Jonas.) The fight’s location was not announced.

The winner of the bout will be next in line to face the winner of WBC junior flyweight titleholder Panya “Petchmanee CP Freshmart” Pradabsri’s upcoming fight with Christian Balunan in Japan. Pradabsri is 44-2 (27 KOs) and coming off a highly controversial majority decision over Carlos Canizales in December. Balunan is 12-0 (7 KOs) and ranked No. 37 by the WBC.
