Trainer Joe Gallagher will be rewarded for his work at the Palace of Westminster in London.
The Manchester, UK-based Gallagher, currently juggling a busy roster of fighters while receiving treatment for Stage 4 cancer, is among 27 “exceptional individuals” to earn the British Citizen Award (BCA) for their contributions to society.
The medal presentation will take place on July 24, and Gallagher will be awarded a BCA Medal of Honour for Services to Recreation and Sports.
The 2015 Ring Magazine Trainer of the Year has worked with a long list of champions over the years, but he has also turned young boxers into fine young men and women – and not just fighters.
Said Stephanie Wood, from BCA Partner One Stop: “This year’s medalists exemplify the incredible support within our communities, especially during challenging times. We’re honored to partner with the BCA and play a part in recognizing these exceptional individuals.”
Gallagher’s roster currently includes heavyweight contender Lawrence Okolie, cruiserweight puncher Callum Johnson, Jack Massey, Zelfa Barrett, Natasha Jonas, Macauley Mcgowan, Mohammed Alakel and many other up-and-comers.
