The lightly-regarded bridgerweight class will soon be able to boast four 'world' titlists - even though only two out of the four sanctioning bodies recognize it as a legitimate division - because on Saturday Russians Evengy Romanov, 19-1 (12 KOs) and Georgiy Yunovidov, 10-1 (6 KOs), meet for the WBA interim title in Ekaterinburg.
Romanov was last spotted in a boxing ring 17 months ago getting knocked out in two rounds by Zhaoxin Zhang. Yunovidoz is yet to contest a bout scheduled for more than 10 rounds.
The WBA champion is another Russian, Muslim Gadzhimagomedov who has returned to amateur boxing after winning the WBA title.
The WBC classify South African Kevin Lerena as champion while 43-year old Polish veteran Krzysztof Wlodarczyk holds the interim title. Lerena makes another attempt to make it at heavyweight when he squares off against Lawrence Okolie July 19.
