Merciless Ray Mercer, the greatest wasted hw talent?

Mercer gotta be perhaps the greatest wasted talent in hw history. The guy had it all: talent, chin, ko power, ring iq. But he was too lazy I guess, didn't train enuff. Plus he got screwed a couple times in some of his biggest fights, most notably against Lewis. I thought Holyfield fight was close but Holy snatched it. The way he came from behind against both Damiani and Morrison (both WHITE guys, you morons who claim I'm a racist!) was impressive.

I wonder how a fight between him and Tyson would have been...gee, its one of those big what ifs.

Poor Mercer's reputation really took a hit when Grandfather Larry Holmes outpointed him.

Though I grant you, if he was to have met Tyson in 1991 or 1996, he would have had a passable chance at a win.......

he was suppose to fight tyson but tested positive for hep a, he didnt get robbed vs lennox,it was a good scrap & could of went either way...a draw would have been suitable...his alltime low point was he was bowe's mandatory & he had a stay busy fight vs jesse ferguson & he was so out of shape he lost...i'll never forget during one of the later rounds when mercer was gassed, ferguson said to him"you didn't train to hard for me did you ray?"...he had adecent career but id say he was an underachiever...

You dont seem to understand the definition of ROBBED. If a fight isnt scored the way it should be, if the outcome is not a draw but it shoulda been, then its a robbery. End of discussion.

No he wasn't. And yes you're still a racist.

He had about as good of a career as he could have. The man had a late start in boxing, got rather lucky against Damiani, was outboxed by an ancient Larry Holmes and then journeyman Jesse Ferguson, until having two close fights with Lewis and Holyfield who were the best heavyweights around.

He didn't have an awful lot of talent, but made up for it with a solid jab and a granite chin.

A top level boxer would always own Mercer as long as he didn't fall apart. Not nearly the greatest waste of hw talent.

I believe Andrew Golota was the biggest waste. Perhaps Gerry Cooney also.
