The preceding Fullmer beatdown was apparently even worse... and the actual reason why Paret died.

Paret was known to rebound from severe abuse and win.

Fighting of the era was significantly more violent. It was a much meaner sport. Also, guys like Graham and Archer were penalized simply for not being violent enough.

Have you not see the Griffith-Archer fights? Right or wrong, today Archer would have run away with that fight on the score cards. But then fans wanted blood. The Griffith-Paret fight wasn't particularly unusual.

I disagree . . . the 12 months leading up to Paret's demise was a brutal period. He fought Griffith three times, squeezing out one very tough SD and being KOed twice. The Fullmer fight (overweight at MW) was a mere three months before the third Griffith fight and he suffered three knock downs during that fight. Too much action, too many punches in too short a period of time.

I think it was a culmination of abuse; I think his people were using him up for what money they could get fast.

Anyway, I have run across writers who claimed they saw that Paret was damaged goods after Fullmer, but of course they were using 20-20 hindsight, so who knows. But that was a brutal 12 months.

Could it have been an accumulation of abuse? Absolutely possible. Was it? I would have to say no without any forensic backup. I don't disagree with the premise, but the statement it was the Fulmer fight that killed him. Was it the Mancini fight that killed Kim or his previous fights? Garcia vs Ruelas? The list goes on.

Definitely. It's very hard to watch and I can't imagine it being allowed to happen today.
