Comments Thread For: Jose Valenzuela is Open To Facing Edwin De Los Santos in Rematch

Jose "Rayo" Valenzuela was a hot-shot lightweight prospect before Edwin De Los Santos got his hands on him. In September of 2022, both men hit the canvas in the second round. With De Los Santos having his legs underneath him a bit more, he sent Valenzuela to the pavement once more in the third before closing the show just a few seconds later.

Yessir! Get that title shot first, smart move. If he wins, Edwin would be game to rematch, not saying he isn’t now why wouldn’t he be since he already beat him but that chance to hear the two best words in the game for the first time is something truly special for all pugilists.

How was Saturdays fight a WBA title
eliminator when theres at least 5 fighters ahead of both Rayo and Colbert on the WBA rankings?

I don't think this rematch would happen the same way the Colbert fight happened instantly for Valenzuela. It's almost apples and bananas where Rayo looked dominant in one while he was dominated in the other. That alone is enough reason to reject this rematch. Also, remember that Valenzuela is the priced PBC fighter, not De Los Santos as seen in their first fight where Sam Watson was seen circling around Jose. I don't know the dynamics now ever since. Either way, PBC is not going to pit this 2 together again, and they'd rather let them go their separate ways and match them with others.

Valenzuela fighting De Los Santos a second time won't vindication like the rematch with Colbert was for him.
He will get unceremoniously knocked out once again, if this match is ever made, because Valenzuela's chin isn't strong enough to withstand De Los Santos' power.
