The way Fury boxed Usyk in the middle rounds was brilliant stuff

Usyk is a pretty advance operator one could ever be but the way Fury outboxed him in the middle rounds was really impressive. Made him missed, made him lunging, tagged him to the head and body and got out-maneuvered. (Albeit ofcourse Fury wasn’t able to sustain it later)

i thought Usyk won not because he was the better tactician, but because he had the way better engine, the stronger willpower/hunger/desire and was the more disciplined and focused between the two.

    thoughts?

Agree, and I think Fury blew it tbh.

He had Usyk hurt a number of times, but didn't seem to realise it. He also got over-confident and sloppy in defence.

Still, it's not a fight you'd say "I don't know how Fury can win in a rematch", you can see how he can win, if he applies himself (and gets his Dad out of the corner).

fury is an exceptional fighter, highly skilled and one of the kind (top 5 ATG HW h2h for sure). I think he was very well prepared and did the best he could. the fact he was taking the mid rounds was what would be expected if usyk and him were on the same level.

but usyk is level above. People should realise how much physical adventage fury has. It is like Crawford going against Bivol. Even if Bivol was on Bud’s level
skillwise I would expect Bivol to beat him relatevly easy. the fact usyk won and hurt fury, just shows how remarkable good usyk is, not that fury is not exceptional.

kudos to both fighters. Fury still beats AJ and everybody else, pretty easy.

Kind of agree wtf was he doing showboating? He was pulling away, landing hard uppercut and right hands

I felt Fury boxed a poor tactical fight and didn't press when he needed to, I'm not sure, maybe he didn't have the gas tank, maybe he got complacent and started thinking "this is easy" in those mid rounds. Maybe it was Usyk bopping him in the honker.

Who knows all I know is Usyk has made a career out of these late fight turnarounds, Fury needed to have a plan in place to prevent him from bossing the last 4 and he did not have one so he lost.

He lost cope harder, if the lumbering oaf spent less time showboating he might have banked some earlier rounds

A win doesn't need to be consistently dominant across 12 rounds.

Fights ebb and flow and it's a hallmark of Usyk's fights. Guys get the upper hand, but Usyk figures things out and finds a way. It's what he's always done.

Bellew, Chisora, Briedis, Joshua, Fury - they all had their moments. Usyk ultimately adjusted and won.

I completely agree Fury looked great through 6. But he's not the first. Lesser fighters than him have looked good against Usyk right up until they didn't anymore. Even when Fury looked great it was still Usyk applying pressure - eventually it tells.

I also feel that way. Fury is still N.2.

usyk did what he always does - goes to another level when he needs to. Same with bellew, same with AJ, now with Fury. Bellew did well, AJ did well, Fury did well - but in all these fights they were outclassed, stopped, or nearly stopped when usyk went to the next level in those rounds where he needed to.

Fury is exceptional, but he cannot match Usyk when he goes to that higher level - his ceiling is not that high. Now Usyk goes through the gears, regardless who he fights.

I think Usyk is due more credit than those who say that Fury blew it. He always acts the same way in fights, and has always backed it up with winning, usually convincingly.

Usyk worked him out. Then lost it. Then reset and worked it out again. Once Fury lost the gameplan and Usyk changed his, Fury could never get back on track.

I know this is subjective but you could see that Fury could no longer work Usyk out from about round 7 and the showboating and smiles disappeared.
