How to create a hype job- the Berlanga story

This is a bigger issue in boxing but Im using berlanga as an example. he is just the test subject on how to create a hypejob and also how to create an easy opponent for big names like canelo to feast upon as they duck real challenges.

Berlanga never beat a top 10(ring) ranked opponent before fighting canelo, here are the 5 guys he fought before the canelo fight: Marcelo Coceres, jason quigley, roamer Alexis Angulo, Steve rolls, Padraig Mccrory.

So as you can see no one good at all, but maybe he showed amazing skills that could translate to the top level? nope...

berlanga vs quigley- Bad Left Hook unofficially scored the fight 113-111 for Berlanga

berlanga vs angulo Bad Left Hook’s unofficial card had it even at 95-95

berlanga vs coceres 96-93 from all three judges, which is also what Bad Left Hook had.

berlanga vs rolls official cards 97-93, 96-94 and 96-94.

So he fought low level opposition and looked very poor while doing it, hes ready for a canelo fight??? benavidez doesnt deserve a fight but this guy does? this guy was so bad that he had to be given a shot before he went and lost to someone legit

That's what's happening in the sport. Is been trending that way for years.

Is bizarre how he is being prompted up as a young prospect at age 28 and future champion just because he decided to fight in the backfoot against Canelo and went all twelve. He didn't do well because he had a granite chin

If Berlanga fights a stylist like Plant or a busier fighter with power like Munguia/Mbilli, he will most likely get overwhelmed. Heck the technical skills of middleweights like Adames, Janibek and Sheeraz will prove more than enough even if they are physically weaker.

Morrell Jr called him out a couple of times, they're a few fighters in the division that I'd favor it over him, pacheco, mbilli, shiskin and Iglesias.

I've said this countless times over the years and ill say it again...you don't get a Canelo fight because you're "ready"...in fact, being ready is a negative.

The fact that Berlanga got a title shot against Canelo over Benavidez defies description. Just no defending it. Boxing is a lot closer to pro wrestling than people realize. Witness the rise of Jake Paul and his Tyson show. I stick around because I’ve been a fan for so long, and because there are still some great fights here and there, but as a sport boxing is shot.

I get what you're saying and all but when was Berlanga EVER a hypejob?

He may be the lone boxer amongst this new crop who pretty much EVERYONE knew ****** from the get-go. Not saying it didn't happen, but I don't recall a single article or fluff piece since his career began calling him the next big thing.

There was a chunk of time that he was heavily hyped for having 100% of his fights end with first round KO's. Then he stepped up in competition and struggled badly and got exposed...

Yup , you got that right
Reminds me of David Lemieux , as soon as he stepped up , the Ko’s didn’t follow and got that Berlanga treatment

Berlanga KOed his first 16 opponents in the first round. As bad as they were, that kind of streak had to create buzz…hype. The moment Edgar fought someone with a faint pulse, he went the distance. Lol I have to laugh when I think about it. Few fighters have ever been handed such a sweet path to a big payday. Wouldn’t bother me in the least, except that there are legitimate contenders to the 168 lb throne; and they’ve been criminally bypassed in favor of a soft touch.
