Comments Thread For: BoxingScene Mailbag: Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury, Johnny Fisher and Claressa Shields

I’m a big Usyk fan, but he’s not a top 5 heavyweight of all time. He’s been very impressive in this era. You can’t really compare Joshua or Fury as equal to the challenges that past heavyweights fought.

Some of these comments are of the fanboy casual quality. I thought you guys were professional boxing experts. I prefer Breadman any day. a few of you guys are goofballs

        My $0.02!
The REAL problem is, is that "best ever" mentality that Floyd started.
"if youre not the BEST EVER, you aint chit"
Too many people praising good (but not yet great) fighters; proclaiming them to be ATG, TBE and GWOAT and all that malarky that looks good in article titles...
After that it goes backwards "Usyk would get killed by..." "Shields would dominate ANY female..."
The other one is: Once you lose, its "time to retire..."
It's pointless! its like compartmentalizing your favorite foodstuffs. Who cares if you like this kind of meat or that kind of meat over that kind of salad? we all (should be) eating well balanced meals.
No one seems to get this!
(imo the same applies to politics)

I am honoured that two of my posts were used in this article. By the way, I don't think that Usyk has anything left to prove to anyone and I cannot see a currently active fighter that would add anything to his already impressive resume and legacy.

Did Floyd ever say that? Or is this another one of those things that he is going to be unjustly blamed for without any proof?

I appreciate everyone’s opinion. But ranking Usyk top 5 ever is to much to swallow . I’ve respected Usyk for all his done through out his Career but I cannot possibly rank him above great’s like Marciano or Dempsey or Frazier or foreman . All those greats were the best at pressure & infighting . If an old version of chisora pushed Usyk like he did . Imagine Marciano or Dempsey or Frazier or Foreman going at Usyk. I can not seeing Usyk beating any of them

Marciano was a great fighter in his era, but alas he was a slow plodder with limited skills whose best fighting weight was 198lbs. He would stand little chance against Usyk. To borrow (mangle) a phrase from from the movie China Town, "Politicians, public buildings, whores, and old boxers all get more respectable with the passage of time".

If was just a slow plodder with limited skills , then surely someone would have beaten him wouldn’t you think.
