Sparring stories should be taken with a grain of salt, and I’m skeptical of a prospect in the lower weight classes who only has 21 amateur fights. Top Rank doesn’t sign fighters that don’t at least have potential though, so good luck to him.

He's been training and sparring with top professional fighters for years and he's just 17. I understand what you're saying , but it seems like with scoring the way it is in the amateurs versus how it is in the pros , it's almost two different sports these days. If the ultimate goal is to turn pro , maybe working like a pro instead of preparing for amateur bouts makes more sense. David Benavidez went the same route. Like anything , if it works , it's brilliant, if it doesn't, it's ******.

He must be really good in the gym. Bob Arum does not heap praise like this on just anyone. If he is "handling numerous world champions with shocking ease" during sparring, he needs to learn how to handle the pressure of a real fight for high stakes when a lot of money is on the line. Some talents can do it and others cannot. Stage fright is a real thing in many walks of life and some people just cannot perform when everybody is watching.

I still remember talking to a talented young tennis player who was also handling many good players with ease until he started playing for money which is when it all fell apart. He could not handle the pressure and could not perform under those conditions. He had to change careers.
