You guys are missing the point. Alternative charts are just that - charts of a specific type of music, for fans of that music.

the Billboard 100 will tell you what the actual hits are - songs that are getting played everywhere, songs that people will remember in 20 years when thinking about this era.

There's one single song in the top 100 that resembles rock - .

The other 99 are rap, country, and pop.

    Rock is a dead genre.

There are if you're into Alternative. Somewhat ironic but Alternative is mainstream now.

Honestly, yeah that’s what would get played. Cuz alternative is considered different.

I would consider Five Finger Death Punch successful and they formed in 2005. They’ve headlined at All-State area.

            Nickelback was formed in 1995.

Daughtry is a rock band I’ve heard of and heard it playing on a local rock station. They’ve had a few songs reach Billboard top 100. They formed in 2006.

Disturbed and Five Finger Death Punch have both switched their styles to sound more, “emotional” or “deep”

I’d say “modern rock,” or however you want to classify the genre, is sounding softer, slower, more emotion, and maybe even a little bit country-ish.

Yeah, the post-grunge era was so bad, rock never recovered.

People decided they'd rather listen to older bands or rap/country instead of seeing bands like Puddle of Mudd or Creed pumping out "hits."

Bro no offense. But if you think five finger death punch are deep, and even relevant then you need to broaden your tastes lol

No offense taken here. This is a forum.

Maybe I articulated what I meant the wrong way.

I mean, Five Finger Death Punch was a “heavier” sounding band that had some success.

Not a huge success like some of the other rock bands previously mentioned, but I would classify them as a band that “made” it.

And I haven’t listened too much of their new stuff, but they’re definitely different sounding and trying to appeal to a “softer” and “deeper” sounding style of rock. A more “mainstream” style.

Like, “Judgement Day,” is definitely a change of style, tempo, and sound from a lot of their other stuff.

And that goes back to the original topic of rock music evolving.

It seems to be a dead genre currently. Nu metal was big in the late 90's/early 00's then here in the UK at least we had the later 00's of music that was kind of rock, Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian, those types of bands that were big for several years. into the 2010's there hasn't been another re-invention of rock I can really think of.

Yeah, they're few and far between. But every now and then, you hear some good ones like Cage The Elephant, The Black Keys and Chris Stapleton, who was more of a southern rock sound to him. Vintage Trouble and Imelda May aren't too bad either if you like classic soul and rockabilly.
