Oh really? No great conspiracy? No long drawn out craziness that violates Ockham's Razor and/or the way 99.9% of things occur in boxing? You sure Queen B? Does not sound like you to take something at face value... You ok?

I guess the press decided to make it less offensive to him.

But the word "gob" works much better with garrulous in front of it. (As in: Shut your garrulous gob.)

Or were they using it in place of sailor? Did this Sharkey have any connection to the Navy?
Sharkey was in the Navy, hence Gob.

He was a success with no caveats: had a wife of many years, businesses in New York, and I believe he had a long life as well... Wiils even had a great narrative regarding his career. Apparently he had to sub at the last minute for a friend ad did remarkably well.

But as a fighter I never saw much in him. Ive always found it hard to fathom he would have given Dempsey much of a problem and I would have to say the same regarding Tunney.
I think part of the problem is we don't have prime footage of him, at least as far as I know. I found his headstone (still haven't visited it yet but I will!) and turns out he was a bit older than a lot of us who were going by Boxrec thought.

There isn't really much footage of him at all. A few from a round here...a few from a round there...

Yea, I think it was about two years. I sent an email to boxrec and they corrected it in less than 15 minutes. They do a great job with that site.

A lot of record keeping was questionable regarding births. Even up to Liston! Who was rumored to be older than he claimed to be. History is perspective: Liston lived not really that long ago, yet still at that time, official records could be quite unofficial!

                  - - THE conspiracy is how GW Booth had such easy access to Abe Lincoln’s Theater Alcove that the billions of banality modern historians have never tackled.

Ockham’s razor just a cut throat tool for the hamhanded U.

Sure they have. There is one piece of garbage called the Lincoln Conpiracy, which like all conspiracy theories doesn't hold water when debunked. Half-truths, cherry picked facts, much conjecture. Big seller in the 1980s

                    Reality:

Grant begged off that night because Mrs. Grant couldn't abide Mary Todd Lincoln.

His body guard went to relieve himself.

Booth had access to the theater at his leisure and placed himself in position to watch through a pre-drilled peak hole, the comings and goings of the balcony.

Lincoln had no official protection. Bodyguard was personal and the Pinkertons were employed to out conspiracies but didn't provide actual bodily protection.

It only took half a brain to get to Lincoln that night and with Booth's access it was an easy kill.

                      - - There were troops and assigned bodyguards protecting Lincoln from demonstrated threats at his inaugarations.

Pinkerton credited with setting up Secret Service. Booth a well known firebrand.

Security stood down is the only explanation much like 9/11.
