Somedays, I feel like you: a monster at LHW who could take down Spinks, Ez, or Tunney. Other days I think of him as being kind of slower and a big target for a fast fighter to outpoint
    - - Well, those guys including Foster are much better than Johnson who was beat 3x by Archie. Yet the usual ninnies populating boxing fans always claimed Archie ducked the 4th rematch which is infantile at best if not vacuous. Archie was in a spot where he was making more $$$ beating up hvys that gave him his top payday vs Rocky.

      Johnson was 1-3 against Moore.

Foster was a substitute for Zora Folley, who pulled out with a virus. Foster was knocked down for a nine count in the 1st by a right hand. Foster was staggered badly in the 7th and 8th.
As he was staggering in the 8th round, referee Teddy Martin stopped the bout.
Doug was a good fighter, he really ran Ali close.

Harold Johnson was 1-4 against Archie Moore not 0-3 or 1-3. They fought 5 times.

First 4 all being close fights, and the 5th time that Moore won by KO, Johnson was comfortably ahead at the time of the stoppage.

Yeah, I agree Foster was a level up than Johnson. Its more of a styles make fights thing. I could see Johnson outpointing Foster. Not that I'd put money on it, rather that I think its close enough where Johnson's speed could land him a win.

I don’t think that’s the case at all.

Foster’s resume at least pales in comparison.

Pure skill wise, it’s Johnson by a country mile.

What Foster has is freakish power and a big size advantage. Height/reach. But really that’s about it. He has that over just about anybody at the weight.

That's about it, really? So he didn't slip and lean from punches, parrying or block? Didn't throw in combinations? Hooked off the jab well. Johnson was a very gifted fighter, but to say he was better by a country mile? Eh, I don't see it. Foster did a lot of things brilliantly, it just gets overshadowed by his freakish power.

I said that’s about it over Johnson. Not that’s about it in general for Foster, implying all he has is power and size. That’s the kind of thing you would say.

Foster was excellent as a fighter, definitely has a good skill set along with his power and size, a victim of a mostly weak era. He hangs in any LHW era. But pure skill wise yes Johnson is a country mile ahead, Johnson is ahead of most LHW’s in that regard. As a fighter in general he’s not a country mile ahead, of Foster.

It's not the kind of thing I would say. In fact I didn't say it. Does Johnson look smoother? Sure. He looks better than Spinks as well, Looks bettet than most lightheavyweights in history if you ask me. But you cant say that Spinks era was a weak or claim Johnson better. Is he a country mile ahead in skill? Nah, that's a total exaggeration. Both were highly skilled. But in my OPINION, Foster is the better fighter and would win h2h.

Yeah it definitely is the kind of thing you’d say. It’s what you do, when called out on it and can’t defend it you say you “generalise”

You’ve randomly inserted Micheal Spinks into the conversation there, for what reason, I don’t know. Conversation has nothing to do with Spinks and Spinks and Johnson are much closer in terms of skill than Foster and Johnson are.

You’re entitled to your opinion. Foster has the capability of beating anyone at LHW. But when it comes to pure skill, Johnson is obviously better than Foster. Doesn’t mean he’d win the fight, doesn’t even mean he’s better.
