Did Duran Fear Hearns?

Before, not after he was KO'd. I read an article or interview about this once, years ago. The words were those of someone Duran knew or trained with--a close associate.

Did anyone give Duran a real case of jitters? Was it Hearns? Is it plausible?

Duran was always slightly uncomfortable around Tommy, not fear exactly but caution.

I don't think any of the Four Kings really feared anyone.

Although if Hagler moved up in weight like the others then Spinks and Qawi might have given him pause in '83.

Duran never should have fought Hearns (except for the payday).

At 5' 6" no man could stop Hearns' right hand.

Hearns at 6' 1" was simply too tall for Duran.

Duran at 5' 6" (5' 7") against Leonard at 5' 9" (or 5' 10") was reasonable.

Leonard at 5' 10" (or 5' 9") against 6' 1" Hearns was reasonable.

But Duran against Hearns was a foregone conclusion.

IMO There is no way for a man that short to stop that right hand.

** Some say 5' 7" for Duran. I say he ain't. I'm 5' 6" and I stood next to Roberto, eye to eye. -- But then again maybe eye balling one inch isn't realistic.


P.S. I spent my entire life at 5' 6" and I found that all short men like to claim to be 5' 7".

Then I would stand next to them and find I was taller.

It's as if we culturally see 5' 7" as 'not short' so every short man lies his way up to 5' 7".

Or so it seems that way to me. I have unintentionally caught many a short man in a lie by just standing next to them.
