But i still think it would have been a close fight, with Hearns hurting RJJ a couple of times, thus the difference in a very close fight.

    Hearns 7-5 or 8-6-1

Best weight vs Best weight? You gotta go with Hearns. You gotta go with the guy who is more fundamentally sound. The way that Hearns could poleaxe you with his jab and almost simultaneously hit you with his right hand was a thing of beauty. I don't see Jones getting out of the way of that all night. He would be fighting Hitman Hearns not Clinton Woods.

Roy was an entirely different animal, though. He wasn't interested in technical counterpunching (probably a bad word choice, but whatever) as much as just raw reflexes and blazing speed. I could see him time Hearns much better than anyone else could, but if Hearns lands a big right hand, it's good night for Roy. I give a close, close nod to Jones, couldn't tell you how it ended. They were both so versatile that it could have ended up a KO for both fighters or a decision for both fighters.
I think you make a lot of sense but that reach and height advantage for Hearns might make the difference.

On the other side, RJ's speed would make Tommy chase him, and RJ was a plenty big enough puncher that eventually he would put too much damage on Hearns, leading to a stoppage.
even though it confllicts with my opinion this is a good breakdown. I can see it happening this way as well.

While this is a pound for pound matchup...Jones is the greater fighter all-time. Hearns is an ATG but Roy has him in my book. And in a head to head match, I'd favor Roy as well. In fact, i wouldn't be surprised if Roy flattened him.
