    Old School Boxers Diet's?

    Put up the diet's that you know of that old school fighters used. Pre 1960's....

    Bob Fitzsimmons's Diet
    6.30am - Rises, bathes, dresses.
    7.00 - Sherry and egg
    7.05 to 8.15 - Rides on bicycle (15 Miles)
    8.15 - Breakfast
    9.30 - Goes 15 miles afoot
    11.30 - Has rubdown and rests
    1.00pm - Dinner
    3.00 - Works in gymnasium
    5.00 - Showerbath and rubdown
    6.00 - Supper
    8.00,9.00,10.00,11.00 - Bed

    In the October 12 edition of the Dallas Morning News, it was reported that Fitz, after an ocean swim, a walk, a romp with Pat - his two hundred pound St Bernard, and some wood splitting, settled down to a breakfast table usually stocked with "oatmeal, muffins, steak, chops or chicken. He does not believe in diet or special foods." After exercising and a cold sponge bath there was a hearty dinner of "every vegetable the markets far and near can produce. These are flanked by generouis roasts of beef, mutton and pork."

    Dempsey's Championship Fighting lists a training diet, which I unfortunately forget the details of at the moment. I believe he recommended egg whites though.

        6 A.M Rise. Drink a cup of hot tea, or a cup of beef broth or chicken broth.

        6:30 A.M Hit the road.

        7 A.M Arrive home. Take brief sweat-out and shower. Have breakfast of fruit juice, cereal, eggs, and milk or tea.

        12:30 P.M Lunch of lettuce and tomato on toast (perhaps with two or three slices of bacon). Glass of milk or cup of tea. If you do not have
        bacon with the lettuce-tomato sandwich, you can drink a malted milk.

        6 P.M Gymnasium. Have cup of hot tea with lemon before the workout.

        7:15 P.M Workout completed.

        7:45 P.M
        Home and dinner: half g****fruit or glass of fruit juice or cup of broth. A salad with olive oil and perhaps lemon juice. No vinegar!
        Meat -anything broiled or boiled; nothing fried. Steaks, chops or chicken. Stews are good if you need to gain weight. Also, a
        baked potato, if you need weight. But no pork, veal, lobster, shrimp, crabmeat, or starchy foods like spaghetti.

        For dessert: stewed fruit, prunes, apricots, pears, or rhubarb, etc. Also hot tea. No pastries.

        8:15 P.M Relax half an hour.

        8:45 P.M Take a fifteen-minute walk.

        9 P.M Bed.

              I find Dempsey's very interested, he was very dedicated.

              The likes of Joe Louis's, Sam Langford, Stanley Ketchel's, Micky Walkers diets would be amazing....Anyone?

                The diet is OK, but not eating for 5.5 hours before the gym will inhibit your ability to train as hard as possible. I have no idea why he recommends the cup of hot tea with lemon? The dinner is decent.

                  If you wouldn't have said that was Dempsey's training routine, I would've sworn it was Shannon Briggs......

                  Fitz' day makes Dempsey's look like a journeymen.

                    Not from 1960s but there are some training routines of professionals here, you're always looking for these kind of things so I thought it would interest you Golden.
