It's really, really difficult one to rank one of them higher. They are both so even and also very intertwined within each others careers. Without the other, neither would have been nearly as great as they were. Not even close.

They both have huge wins the other doesn't have along with their own great wins and the trilogy against each other that Barrera snuck out the winner as by a whisker.

I don't know which is higher. I'd have to go back and check their resumes again. As for where they sit, someone just inside the top ten I'd say.

NChristo, as always, put up a great list. Though I'd probably put Manuel Ortiz in front of Zarate. He was a Mexicano? I can't remember.

Why the hell isn't anyone putting Ortiz in their lists? He's not Mexican is he?

Maybe it was Miguel Canto I was thinking of....

Ahhh ****, I must be going senile in my old age.

I always thought Manuel Ortiz was American, he was born and raised in Cali and fought most of his career there, might be wrong though.

I'd put 'em in the top 5, most put 'em the top 10.

He is mexican american, so most people don't include him on these types of lists....kinda difficult where to draw the line:

Is Lewis Jamacian/British/Canadian when determining his place

              Napoles Cuban or mexican

              Kostya Tszyu etc. etc. etc.

Guys that, in my opinion, are definitely higher are: Sanchez, Chavez, Saldivar, Lopez, Olivares, Napoles (if you count him which I think he should be), Canto. Then guys like Zaragoza, Morales and Barrera all sit around the top ten. Long time, multiple champs.

Zaragoza is very underrated in my opinion. I think only the Hamed and Morales win for Barrera and the Barrera win and Pac win for Morales sneak them above Zaragoza. Otherwise, the amount of champs, the amount of times he regained the championship and the length of his reigns and title defenses that Zaragoza had is mind-blowing. He fought so many great fighters.

Yeah I'd probably move Zarate down a few places after re-thinking his career, actually forgot about Canto, silly mistake, was just a quick list though.

Indeed. Right you guys are. Just checked. Born and raised in the US. I always thought he was from Mexico....

It is a difficult one. I guess in the case of someone being born and raised in a country that's not their ancestors origins, it's still where they are from. So yeah, Ortiz is an Americano.

Napoles, Tszyu and Lewis is a bit harder. Born and then raised somewhere other than their fighting country and really only had their pro careers there. I don't know.

I say that a fighter is from where they were born, I don't really consider the ancestors of the fighter. Eg Hamed was British although his ancestress were from UAE or somewhere
I say that Lewis is British as he was born there and went on to fight there aswell as he considers himself to be British. I consider Tszyu to be australian.
