It is right of you to give the conditions of the match. Many forget to do that.
Sonny beats a very young George. But the second incarnation of George who controls his energy output wipes the floor with Sonny. In between those years, I am not sure what happens.

In their primes, I think Sonny's skills and superior stamina in the later rounds stops Foreman, then again, any time two punchers of this level share the same ring, anything can happen.
The old Foreman to me was simply too slow and was either out boxed or busted up by fringe contender types for the most part and barely compeitve vs the best.
Losing to Morrison, and Holyfield. Having a real close one with Shultz, and landing a bomb late to beat Moorer. Beating Alex Stewart, but ending upon with a face that looked like a melon that has been hit by a hammer. I think Liston gets to this version of Foreman.

Old Foreman was basically a matured version of his old self, patient, tough and experienced. he's not really better at anything else though, as you said a lot of B class fighters beat him because he couldn't catch them, and in a way couldn't land anything with real leverage on it, its just his arm punches were still hard enough to knock guys like Moorer out.
Prime for Prime Foreman and Liston are very similar, I want to say Foreman is perhaps a little more dangerous because of the leverage he gets from his strong legs but Liston is a better boxer.
Even the work Liston did on Clay was very good, he quit sure - but Clay was at his best back then and Liston you could argue was on the slide. He still caught Clay with a lot of shots, I don't think Foreman would have touched Clay back then.
I don't think this is hard to determine at all. Foreman was after all, a protege of Liston's, Sonny laced him up.
Foreman Might punch harder than Sonny, at least regarding a singular punch. Everything else Liston does better. better jab, much better footwork, more developed combo punching, better defensively, etc.
Liston would make Foreman look slow, and Foreman would always have a puncher's chance.
Apple reminds me that Sonny was a bit bird-legged, even next to lesser specimens, and especially so compared to his own upper body. Today, they would build his gams up, bringing his peak weight 8 or 10 lbs. higher.
Im just expressing something that irks me... a pet peeve. Please do not take it personally if you do this
But Jesus Mother Mary and Joseph... ARE WE REALLY GOING TO COMPARE OLD GEORGE? Seriously? Old George was wise, he did something remarkable, and even landed that proverbial lucky punch... But there is no way he compares to prime George.
I doubt Liston would have gotten in the ring with a 54 year old fighter in those days and I would not blame him. Old George is Carney stuff! not to be legit compared to an ATG fighter like many consider young george and liston.

lefty look at Liston, he did not have bird legs, he was virtually perfect proportioned, a miniature angus!!! with milk teets grip strength and all!
Foreman said no one ever hit him as hard as Liston when they sparred. Sonny was an underrated boxer. I think he would have broke George down. Too bad Sonny wasn’t allowed to win against Ali.
