    Bums in boxing vs Elites

Why is it so called boxing fans call all they dont like a bum? A fighter can take 1 loss and be a total loss and has always been a bum just didnt get exposed until the loss OR they are undefeated and a bum just cherry picking every fight. This is way too common nowadays.

The only variable is they aren't a bum if your a fan of them. At that rate they are considered TBE and any loss they may have was a fluke they can never lose period cause they are that great.

What happened to the days where fighters are respected even if you dont like them? I dont get it at all. for example I'm personally not a fan of Canelo. I watch his fights and enjoy them. I often root for his opposition even if I'm all too aware he beat them BUT I respect the **** out of his ability. He is a true warrior everytime he fights and honestly he is great for the sport.

My point being a fighter you dislike isnt necessarily a bum. They are getting in the ring and providing entertainment for all of us and risking their well being while they do it. Why not show some respect to those fighters and more importantly the only sport I truly love.

They called Wilder a bum waaay before his first lost bud. Has nothing to do with ability or awards and everything to do with they just don't like the guy. I mean that last bit rhetorically not Wilder specific.

Whyte doesn't really have a reason to not have fans, but we hate on him anyway.

Then look at Povetkin. That guy earned some hate but we act like he was a real champion anyway.

There is no rhyme or reason, both dudes spent forever as second place champions, both dudes picked up good wins that are really champ's leftovers before they're unranked.

Hell, Haye, won the real WBA title. There was no WBA Super champion when Haye was the WBA champion. He's the last actual WBA champion before recognition switched to the Super. Haye gets way more hate than Pov. Haye's a CW champion and a real HW titlist. Pov's respected doe. Pov's not a champion in any regard, and he did duck Wlad for about a decade, but, he's respected. Don't call him a bum. Call Haye or Whyte bums but not Pov, it makes sense.

'Bum' is one of the most ridiculously overused terms on the forum, right alongside 'ducked' and coward. I mean FFS I actually saw the term 'bum' used to refer to an undisputed, undefeated titlist today.. I mean, the ****?

I'd personally adjust the auto censor so instead of asterisking out banal common-use profanity like fcuk and t1ts it instead starred out nonsense like 'bum' and 'duck'. Be a vast improvement far as I'm concerned.

You got it right on this one the bold screams volumes as to what I was saying here. I dont get it I mean personal opinion is cool bum bum and duck seems to be used entirely too loosely nowadays. Why not just say you dont like the guy. Hell as I said in the OP I dont really care for Canelo but bygod ya gotta respect the dude. Great post and I agree with the common used profanity too if somebody gets offended by profanity on a boxing website they are probably following the wrong sport.

But you’d agree that Wilder is a certified bum tho, no?

Fought no one for 15 yrs apart from the cherrypick of a drug addict coming from a 3-yr hiatus gone bad.

Lacks boxing fundamentals. One-trick pony. No left hand. No jab. No hooks. Flat flooted. Etc. How else would define a bum if not Wilder?

I know you're trolling, man, and the world knows Deontay is never gonna be Sweet Dee, but no world titlist or top 10 fighter in any division can genuinely be called a 'bum'. These are dudes in the top 1% of their chosen profession which would be the elite by any normal definition of the word.

I get it, folk like to **** with each other and 'bum' is a pithy go to, but it's lost all meaning at this point and besides betraying a lack of imagination it also kinda sets the tone for the rest of the discussion on here. Seriously, though, if Wilder is a 'Bum' then what terms do you have left to describe dudes like Firtha or Gavern?

...and they ain't anywhere near the very bottom of the midden.

but valuev clearly lost to holyfield in the fight before haye so in context it really doesnt mean anything. haye was beating a guy coming off a loss to a 500 year old holyfield. doesnt mean valuev sucks but then again if you watch his other fights he did kinda suck. just being a champion doesnt mean much if anytthing. it could mean something but it doenst have to

I personally try to refrain from calling any fighter a “bum”. Even most journeymen aren’t “bums”, a lot of them actually earn good money and many have decent boxing ability.

What really makes me laugh is when fans call world champions, ranked contenders etc “bums”. That’s usually just haters though tbh.

Even guys like Gavern and Firtha aren’t terrible, terrible. Like they’re not good but they have fundamental ability.

The guys I define as bums are the guys Christopher Lovejoy is fighting in Tijuana or that absolute pudding Dubois fought on his debut.
