Comments Thread For: The Beltline: Daniel Dubois and the oddity of the well-behaved boxer with nothing to say

While preparing to fight Anthony Joshua on Saturday, Daniel Dubois celebrated his 27th birthday. That is an age of little significance, true, yet it is interesting all the same to consider how, in the context of Daniel Dubois, a heavyweight, it is considered especially young, while for others it is considered old - for some, The End

I hope this fight is a draw, almost impossible, but I like both guys and hate to see one lose.

I like that Dubois doesn't say much. It's honest. Boxers are meant to fight. The trash talk is just for casual fans who buy into it.

DD will live his life in a Cocoon, because the social and cognitive parts of his life are the cards he was dealt. To be able to function at his level is nothing short of a miracle.

To the folks out there who don’t know what’s going on in his head, show some empathy and please try not to Rain the quitter label on this remarkable Man.

          Yeah agree.

I have very close personal experience with neurodiverse people and it's not my place to diagnose anyone but Daniel and his Dad actually from the little I've heard him speak both seem a bit neuros.p icy. If you are around it you can tell when someone is scripting or chunking phrases they often use.

When AJ went off on tried to engage Daniel directly Daniel couldn't process that quickly enough. 'Give people an inch and they take a mile' . Fu.ck me unless Daniel has heard that expression before he's not gonna be able to do anything with it, lol. It's a metaphor.

That 'what?' from DD. I didn't like it. I felt for Daniel actually. The laughter from the press as well. It wasn't like Daniel was in on the joke.

You can talk to an autistic person about their 'special interest' for ages but if you then just switch to something else their responses won't be off the cuff. They will be kind of practiced and almost rehearsed. You can almost see the cogs turning as they try and find the 'right' response. Masking they call it and it is tiring stuff.

Dubois is an impressive man for me. But I believe him when he says he's done with the talking for him it's probably not a cliche.

All this talking is probably absolutely f.ucking him up.

If he can get in a mental headspace and fight in front of 90,000 people and do himself justice - he's a winner for me.

I hate to say it but I think he's gonna go under.

And tbf you might as well put his old man in the corner here.
