Golden Gloves Newark NJ late 1930s

    Hi All,
I'm writing a piece about my father who boxed with the Golden Gloves association in Newark in the late 1930s. I'm at a dead end because he changed his name so his mother, who was against it, wouldn't know. Does anyone recognize his name - Kenneth Miglionico? I'd be grateful for any information. I believe he boxed as a lightweight, but not positive.

I'm not sure you will find much success on this forum looking for information on your father. While boxing was quite popular in the 1930s, the only real coverage of the sport would have been newspapers (and radio). Amateurs are probably harder to track down information for compared to the professional ranks. The other complicating factor is that, as you alluded to, many fighters of that time fought under one or more aliases. It would be hard to identify which alias was your father's unless there was a corresponding photo or something.

Your best bet would probably be the newspaper archives at the library or contacting the Golden Gloves association to see if they have any records from that era. I wish you luck with your quest.
