Technically speaking the irony is, guys that seem to "just touch" the opponent on a KO are usually heavy handed hitters, like Foreman. Tyson and Wilder both have real explosive speed and manage the same effect.

It's crazy how threads about Wilder devolve into all kinds of bizarre stuff.

I tend to agree with OP. Can't help but wonder how things would have gone if Wilder had started younger with a better coach, and had developed the attitude to work hard and keep learning. Imagine if he had a left hand to match the right. Just that would have made a massive difference, and he already had a very respectable career if you're not locked into being a hater.

I will say that his lack of technical skill coupled with the bizarre power kind of make him the attraction that he is. He can be getting outboxed and clowned and then end the fight by devastating KO, even in the last round. That vulnerability and uncertainty is part and parcel of what makes him entertaining to watch. I call his power bizarre because there's a lot he does that's just technically wrong, and I'm convinced that his lack of skill means he's actually leaving power on the table; probably quite a lot of it, TBH, and considering that he's got one touch KO power as is, that's kind of scary.

Wilder might have been a type of prodigy, and while I would never compare him to Jones and Ali, both men did things in the ring that would get most men brained. They made it work with unique physical abilities... Jones coming in with a double hook, often even throwing the second to the body... Ali moving straight back!

A prime Wilder had supernatural athleticism and power in his right hand. Had he only developed and learned the fundamentals of the game much earlier in his life; He would have been a complete fighter.

We could very well be talking about one of the top three heavyweight boxing champions of all-time and one of the top 10 fighters of all-time. He could hit but he just didn't know how to box behind a good jab.
