Comments Thread For: Ricky Burns Discusses Jaw Injury, Tough Recovery Back

Ricky Burns has admitted he considered hanging up his gloves for good in the days after breaking his jaw against Raymundo Beltran.

The WBO lightweight champion was left writhing in agony following his controversial draw with the Mexican in Glasgow last month after suffering the injury just two rounds in.

And the Coatbridge fighter admits his shattered jaw caused him so much pain in the days after the fight that he considered retiring from the ring.

He told the Daily Telegraph's website: "I was given morphine in the hospital but the pain was so great that it didn't work.I still don't know how I managed to get through that fight.

This article was literally hard to read.

I don't blame fans for being angry about the Beltran decision, but regardless, Burns deserves credit for his heart. Damn.

I know, eh? I was cringing throughout.

Having had TMJ disorder for over a decade, I can somewhat relate to what Burns is going through. Jaw pain is one of the absolute worst there is, since it interferes with pretty much everything 24/7 - talking, eating, sleeping, swallowing, yawning, dentist check-ups, etc.

The result of the Beltran fight was obviously a load of shyte, but I'll give Burns all the props in the world for biting down (literally and figuratively) and fighting on. He gets even more props if he fights Crawford in his next outing, rather than a tune-up.

I hope he gets the feeling in his jaw back, that f-in sucks. I'd hang them up, it's not worth risking further damage.

His trainer must have mixed feelings, he could've prevented the nerve damage by stopping the fight. Annoying thing is RB would've been labelled a quitter.

He didn't run with the broken jaw either, he fought. Major props for that kind of heart.

Imagine if he left the plate in, continued with his career and a flush shot to the jaw bent it out of shape or something. I mean fokkkkkkin' hell...

Does anyone know if Abraham still has his jaw plate from the first Miranda fight?

Not if he was pulled out by his trainer.

I have not been on here for a while but i apologize and give props to the guy who said Beltran was going to get robbed against Burns in scotland, i gave Burns the benefit of the doubt that he never needed a gift/robbery decision but i have no excuses now Burns lost that clearly and the judge who had Beltran losing by 3 rounds is a idiot.

At least this clears his performance up for the people slagging him off.
I still think the Burns that beat Katsidis and Mitchell is a top lightweight!

It's really not Burns' fault the judges robbed Beltran. He fought with a ton of heart and courage. Props to him. Beltran should get a shot for the interim belt.
