Comments Thread For: Alvarado's Trainer: Too Defensive, Didn't Punch Enough

jeetwin188.com caught up with Mike Alvarado's trainer Shann Vilhauer shortly after his fighter suffered the second loss of his career, a TKO loss to Ruslan Provodnikov. Vilhauer feels that Alvarado fought the wrong fight and that he should have made short work of his Russian rival.

"It was just a bad night. The Russian kid is tailor made for us. Mike just relied on his boxing too much and he fought too defensive of a fight. He then started getting backed up in the ropes and raked with shots and he just didn't have enough to come back," Vilhaueer explained while reiterating that Alvarado simply didn't throw enough punches. "That was the key. He was just too ****ing defensive. When he started jabbing and hooking it was working for him. He didn't punch enough."

Tailor made? Yeah, Ruslans tailor made for beating the **** out of Mike.

Let's be real, Mike wasn't gonna win, if he was any more offensive he would of got clipped x10 more than it already did. His team seem to think Mike is a good boxer, he's pretty damn average at best... Ruslan did much better boxing than Mike has ever done.

They took the fight expecting an easy win, tough ****, you got destroyed.

Yea but he's right in his breakdown of the fight. Alvarado doesn't have the tools to outbox a pressure fighter like Ruslan, so he would have been better off standing in front and trying to knock him out.

Of course he runs the risk of getting KO'd, but in the end if he moves and boxes, he's just delaying the inevitable. Maybe if he stands toe to toe, he hurts Ruslan and knocks him out, you never know.

I think he was really hurt in the first round when Ruslan staggered him. After that is when he started the hopping around. You're right that he wasn't going to win fighting the way he fought, but Alvarado definitely didn't seem think he stood a chance going toe to toe.

i actually agree with his trainer...when he was boxing yea he had early success but by not letting his go more did not even try to slow down ruslan...when he would sit on his punches and trade with ruslan mike got in some very good right hands and uppercuts i was saying he should just go in there and **** with him....mike tryin to box and move after having difficulties making weight was def not going to work that night....rematch and take it right to him is what i would like to see out of mike.....and discipline in training camp is a must as well

I am not too sure about that honestly, he might be right.

However, I feel Ruslan is something special. Yeah, yeah I
could be wrong but thats what my gut tells me.

Before the fight I thought Mike would win based on size. Look this guy
is more than just a brawler or boxer puncher. What makes this guy
special in my eyes is that he can counter your ass in a heart beat
while moving forward and putting this nonstop pressure on you.

Why do you think Mike did not let his hands go? He got countered
magnificently everytime he threw too much. This guy is not
only pressuring your ass all fight night which is enough to break
many a man down, no disrespect to Mike, but he is also slipping
and weaving making you miss and countering your left hook
with his own left hook right after, countering the jab with his overhand
right and to top it all off this son of a b*tch has power???

It is not that Alvardo didn't punch enough, its that Ruslan
made it to where he did not want to punch.

Ruslan is not just a brawler. He is a technician disguised as a brawler.

                  Let the hate begin.
