Boxing analyst Larry Merchant is tired of seeing some of boxing's top fighters involved in easy televised bouts. He says the media should apply a serious amount of pressure on boxers like WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward, and WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson.

Merchant was left with a bad taste in his mouth after watching an HBO televised fight where Ward decisioned an overmatched Edwin Rodriguez, and another HBO televised fight where Stevenson beat up an overmatched Tony Bellew - and the winners of those bouts called for fights which Merchant believes are presenting them with the least amount of danger.

Merchant just commentated the bout between Manny and Rios in which Rios was obviously not a top caliber type fighter. Merchant needs to shut-up and go away.

Merchant just commentated the bout between Manny and Rios in which Rios was obviously not a top caliber type fighter. Merchant needs to shut-up and go away.

I feel what your sayin but Manny was just KOed badly and it was not a certainty that he still had it. In addition Manny had fought Bradley & Marquez twice in his last 3 fights. Besides Floyd that is the best you could ask for in his weight class. He deserved a soft touch to get his confidence back. I actually agree with Merchant for once though. Ward needs to step up and Stevenson too. He took a voluntary fight with Cloud before Bellew so its time to make a meaningful fight. Plus if they fight each other that will make them a lot of money as well.

Golovkin vs Stevens was perfectly fine, but we need to call out Ward for fighting Rodriguez (who was a ranked opponent). Ok Larry.

Kovalev vs Sillahk was perfectly fine, but we need to call out Stevens for fighting Bellew (who was his mandatory). Ok Larry.

Damn these boring boxers and there easy fights!

So lemme see if I'm comprehending this right. Stevenson fights a guy ranked by Ring magazine and has beaten three current Ring rated fighters to date. Ward comes off a procedure, fights an undefeated, Ring ranked fighter. And has pretty much wiped his division out. Yet he says they're fighting easy opponents. But Kovalev fights an unranked guy on the same card with Stevenson. And has one Ring ranked opponents on his resume. GGG fights a total bum in Curtis Stevens. And has one Ring ranked fighter on his resume. Manny Pacquiao, who is supposedly an elite fighter. Fights a second tier jr welterweight, coming off a loss, and making his welterweight debut. Yet Merchant sees no need to call them out. I think Floyd summed it up best in the Ortiz postfight interview.

Exactly Stevenson is calling out top guys like froch n Hopkins is good for the fight and helps build the kovelev fight
