Comments Thread For: Kovalev Open To Facing Andre Ward, But Only at 175

WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (23-0-1, 21KOs) is more than happy to sign a contract to fight Andre Ward (27-0, 14KOs), the WBA champion at super middleweight.

Ward's options at 168 are standing to shrink down and some feel there is very little left for him to accomplish at the weight. While some expect Ward to move up in weight in the next twelve months, others believe he is holding firm at 168 for a potential future with Gennady Golovkin.

I was sure that Kovalev would have called Ward and divert the "heat" from his buddy Golovkin... (The same B-Hop and Andre Dirrell did for Ward.)
Guess that Ward will say Kov is "untested yet"...

I know it's cool around this forum to claim or imply that everyone is "ducking", but shouldn't we wait until Ward actually moves up to 175lb before we accuse him of avoiding people like Kovalez..........

All in due time. Ward will move up in weight when he's ready.

In the meantime Kovalev should try to become the real 175 champion because he's not, the linear champ is Stevenson.

Kovalev shouldn't even think of Ward at any weight besides 175. Not even a catchweight.

Ward/Golovkin would probably make Ward more money, which he is seeking at all costs right now, but Ward/Kovalev would almost certainly be the better win.

But did Wardz wait for Golovin to actually move up at 168 before Wardz (recently) called him? Nope.

No i dont think so., We dont have a linear champion until Stevenson and Kovalev fight each other! Shumenov is not on their level and B-Hop is to old for these guys. Stevenson and Kovalev have to fight each other, then we will know whos the best 175 pounder.

The smaller guy should always move up IMO

Stevenson beat Chad Dawson who was the previous linear champ at 175.

Kovalev beat Nathan Cleverly who was just an alphabet belt holder.
