Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Coach: Ward Goes Cold on Targeting GGG

Abel Sanchez, trainer for WBA/IBO/WBC-interim middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (32-0, 29KOs), is a bit surprised that Andre Ward has ceased his pursuit of facing his fighter.

Ward, inactive since a November 2013 decision win over Edwin Rodriguez, finally settled a long running legal fight with former promoter Goossen Promotions earlier this year. Shortly after that settlement, Ward signed a promotional agreement with Roc Nation Sports - which is owned by music mogul Sean "Jay-Z" Carter.

Ward is not Amir Khan, he is not going to pursue a fighter that's not willing or ready to fight him. GGG management made it clear that GGG goal is to clean out his division. Ward don't fall in that division. Nothing else to talk about.

Exactly^^^. They have ducked the man so many times, now trying to pull a top rank and use media spins.

"ward too much. Too soon" "I want to collect titles at 160" "that fight don't make financial sense"

Ward was just playing the name game to try and stay relevant because he chooses to sit out.
Ward and Andrade act like Haymon fighters

Sanchez was the first one to call out Ward and anyone at 168. His bluff got called and he had to get reigned in by Loefller.

I see he's suddenly got mouthy again because he knows Ward is lining another fight up lol

both sides appear to be in agreement that the fight can't happen sooner than the end of the year, and probably not until 2016, so let's just stop talking about it for now

Team Golovkin has been consistent - they'll take the fight when it can generate money, because unlike Froch & Chavez, Ward brings no money.

Team Ward have been inconsistent. He's tied up with Goosen and he's giving interviews every other week saying he wants Golovkin, has his manager send an email to be read on HBO during the Rubio fight. Now he's free and he's trying to get $2mill to fight Perriban.

Abel's point is if Roc Nation really wants to build Andre into a star again, what better way than to put up the money and make a mega fight with Golovkin this year?

ward was doing a lot of talking about GGG when he knew he couldn't fight. now that he can fight he's gone quiet.

truth is I don't think either camp wants the fight right now.
