Comments Thread For: Changes in the New Year: BScene Pound-for-Pound Update

It’s a new year and much took place in the last quarter of 2015 to shake up the pound-for-pound picture.

All three of boxing’s glamour division’s have seen huge shakeups. Welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather retired, the middleweight crown changed hands, and the most dominant heavyweight title reign since Larry Holmes ruled the roost came to an end.

... Juan Francisco Estrada?... Only because of Roman Gonzalez? WTF?

How is the former lineal undisputed HW champion not in the same league as Terence Crawford?

Andre Ward #3? That's unfair to the other fighters who stayed active and fought since 2011. Beat Rodriguez and (out of shape) Smith that's his recent resume. Funny thing I agree with the rest except chocolatito for #5 or 6 and Estrada #10.

In 2013 Viloria (Held WBA & WBO FW titles) was #3. Melindo was #9. (undefeated) ; In 2014 Giovani ( Former world champ ) was #7. Estrada has had 5 title defense vs. legit champions and contenders : hes THE WBA-WBO Champion proven and active.

DeGale in the top 10. Bold, but I like it.

OK, you may know better... But two flyweights in the P4P top ten? Isn't it too much?

I would expect the lower weights to be the majority considering they fight each other more frequently than the rest.

Not at all ! It is P4P afterall, nobody said anything when at one point we had Mayweather, Pac, Bradley and Brook in the top ten.

In my opinion Crawford and De Gale have no business being in the top ten. This is just eye candy pickings based on they look the part. Even Golovkin and Kovalev are too high.

The P4P should be based on best resume in last 2-3 years. Just because you are still an active fighter you can't live of the glory of what you did 5-6 years ago. That rules Ward right out.

By that reckoning Estrada and Gonzalez should be in. Also Nietes and Uchiyama should be in or close.

P4P no 1 should be Inoue (or he should be very close) Not only does he pass all eye candy requirements but his achievement over the last 2-3 years is on a par with anything any other boxer has done - unless anyone knows different?

Exactly. It will never happen due to North American and European readership and website preferences for boxers who are same size as most of readership.

But if you look at it objectively, on a Worldwide level there are far more boxers at lower weights between straw and super FW than there are above 130. And as you said, they all fight each other far more, probably because there is less money.

I'm sure there are Japanese boxing mags with a following like NSB and the Ring. It would be interesting to see who they have as their top ten P4P list - my guess is it'd be skewed more towards lower weight fighters.
