Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr: Fans Are With Me, They Turned on Canelo Over Golovkin

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32 KOs) expects to have the fans on his side on May 6th, when he faces fellow Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs). For weeks the two sides were negotiating the terms and finally reached an agreement on Friday. The fight will be carried by HBO Pay-Per-View, and the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas or AT&T Stadium in Texas will play host.

Vamos Julio! The people are with you to defeat Oscar's Golden Chicken! El Pojo Rojo is a much better sounding way to put it, but out of respect for Canelo I wanted to use a nickname that references Oscar sharing in the culpability of ducking GGG during GGG's prime, and maybe is even the one truly responsible for it.

Because I mean, I don't think Canelo the man is a chicken or a coward. It's just that he has certainly let his promotional team steer him into DUCKING GGG during GGG's prime. When it was a much less dangerous guy, Lara, Canelo demanded Oscar make the fight. So why couldn't he have demanded GGG last year too?

I wish some reporters would actually ask Canelo and Oscar that, separately. If Canelo had the power to demand Lara immediately, then why wouldn't the fans blame Canelo for the GGG fight not happening, rather than Oscar? I mean, if Canelo has the power to demand which opponent he gets when, then I guess he refused to exercise that power with GGG? So shouldn't he get the blame then, not Oscar, if you judge by the standard of what went down with Lara?

Still, I do think Canelo is a real fighter. It's just whoever is to blame on his side, the fact is his side failed all of the last two years to give the people what they wanted, and even went back on their promises repeatedly to fight GGG, which is a BIG no-no with fans. First they said GGG would be after Cotto that year, then they pushed it back another six months, then they said after Khan, then Canelo said he could do it in the ring immediately after Khan, in other words NEXT, but every promise turned out to be fake. So Julio is right, the people are with him!

Train hard Julio! This is your big moment, your big opportunity, to redeem the last few years of your career! You can do it!

C'mon man, no need to bring up Chavez SR Into this. He's a living legend and all Mexicans should show love and respect to him. Even if he did lose to Oscar twice it don't diminishe what he accomplished in the ring. Chavez SR is a true warrior and every true boxing fan knows that.

Didn't Jr delay the Martinez fight for even longer than Canelo has put off facing Golovkin?

Chavez has a point of course, it does seem like a lot less Mexicans on this site support Canelo than used to be the case. He still has a lot more fans on here than Chavez though.

My loyalty lies with the Pride of East L.A. Oscar "The Golden Boy" De La Hoya. I never diminished Chavez Sr. accomplishments a true Legend but never forget Oscar beat him twice so he earn his keep... Chavez Jr. hates on his own and so does his father. Canelo earn his shine he dare to be great no need for the hate that both throw at him... Gonna be there for the promo tour in LA as well for the weight in and fight @ Vegas, I'm sike
