Comments Thread For: Paulie Malignaggi Breaks Down Adrien Broner vs. Mikey Garcia

Paulie Malignaggi fought Adrien Broner four years ago and as an analyst for Showtime Sports has paid close attention to Mikey Garcia's career. The former junior welterweight and welterweight champion can see either fighter winning their 12-round, 140-pound fight Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Garcia is still nearly a 3-1 favorite, but Malignaggi expects Broner's style to give Garcia problems.

Paulie: “A guy like [Marcos] Maidana was hitting Broner because he’s so fundamentally awkward, he’s so difficult to time. But a guy like Mikey, he’s so good and so fundamentally sound, that he’s terrific against most fighters. But if he can’t get used to Broner, he could wind up in a situation where he’s tied up in knots because Broner is fundamental and his style is slick, designed to drive guys with proper fundamentals crazy.”

    ... Paulie is right here...

If Paulie could lay all that leather on Broner, I'm sure Garcia can reach him too. Mikey has a lot more pop in his punches, I give Broner 3 maybe 4 rounds tops, Mikey by UD.

Malignaggi is right. Garcia is more methodical than someone like Maidana. Broner will have to bring up his punching output. Garcia will be looking to counter and catch Broner coming forward. I have a feeling someone getting dropped in this fight.

I used to be confident on Garcia TKO9, but I'm not sure. I go back and forth on this one, it's a hard one to call

I still believe Garcia is going to win this fight even tho i am pulling for Broner. The only two things that could cost Garcia the fight is 1. moving up in weight 2. His chin dont forget Roman Martinez dropped Mikey Garcia and that happened at a lower weight class and Broner dropped Porter at 147. But i think overall Broner just doesn't throw enough punches and Mikey is a more active fighter than Broner.

I'm surprised Pauli took the time to stop fantasizing about Floyd to comment on this fight.

Broner is not a slick hard to hit fighter forget maidana I saw him struggle with guys like granados and taylor who are avg at best and were able to land on broner. A elite fighter like Garcia will have no problems landing.

I think you hit the nail on the head about Broner. He's an excellent boxer but he is not active enough. He has short bursts of punches and then lays back. I think his tendency for "laziness" will cost him in this fight with Garcia.
