Context here is very relevant and it was left out.
Golovkin is answering regarding Canelo's comments on going for the KO. So when he says i'm surprised, that's what he's referring to. He precipitates this by saying there was too much talking and that's what he's referencing to. I know people want to make it seem like he's just randomly saying he's mad Canelo didn't stand in front of him and go toe to toe, he's saying from all the shht talking in the build up to the fight he expect Canelo to actually try and stop him and is surprised when Canelo scrapped that plan.

I am no Canelo fan, in fact I think he lost the fight and I don't like him at all, but OMG those comments from GGG if he really said it, are beyond ******, that part of "he didn't want to fight close, he didn't want to be in front of me"
Why in heaven would Canelo DO ANYTHING OF THAT, if that is not his style at all?
It would be exactly like Canelo saying: why did he push me to the corners, why didn't he want to stay in the middle of the ring, at mid-distance, so that I could punch and counter-punch him with ease?
Canelo, and again I make a point that I dislike him, would have an even better KO rate than GGG if he had the stamina that Gennady has, to stay, like a never-tiring machine, stalking and pushng non-stop.
After watching the whole fight, I have no doubt that Canelo hits at the very least the same as hard as GGG. But he throws way less punches, and also, after a few rounds he is not as strong as in the beginning, because he is already tired, breathing trough his mouth.
THE ISSUE WITH CANELO IS THAT HE IS SO BIG THAT HE HAS VERY LITTLE STAMINA, AND AFTER A FEW ROUNDS HE RUNS OUT OF GAS. Kind of the same issue as Joshua has. Very big-boned and muscular fighters tend to have stamina problems in most cases.
Honestly, I believe that the hardest punches delivered in that fight were thrown by Canelo, not GGG, and that is disappointing to say the least. And I am 100% sure that if Canelo had the same stamina as GGG does, he could have KO'd him. Same story with Cotto. And if he fought Lara and Floyd today, but he had stamina, he could easily KO those two runners.
His trainers should really start focusing on way more aerobic exercises, so he can build some stamina to be able to throw lots of punches all fight, just like GGG does. Definitely, now I know that GGG wins by attrition, by punching over and over and over again, whereas the one with explosive power, able to end a fight with just one shot is Canelo, not GGG.Last edited by sterilizer; 09-18-2017, 01:09 PM.

If GGG had won by KO it would likely be at least a couple of years before Canelo would be ready to come back for another go, and Golovkin can't afford to hang around. Time is running down on his career and he wants to maximise his earnings fast .
It's like an attempt to say, "Gokovkin is a lot better than he looked. He was making the fight close on purpose. He meant to miss all those big right hands he threw. If he wanted to KO Alvarez he could."
