Originally posted by CatchAndShoot View PostMan, wow, can't even discuss boxing with someone as bias as you. And he was way better at 168, and was his weight in his prime. 175 Ward isn't the same as 168 Ward, and he still whooped up on the boogie man.

Anywhere else but Vegas and the cheating **** would have lost twice.

Five paragraphs from you and still no valid reason for Ward to agree to fight Floyd at 160 but not GGG at 160. For a guy who comes off as intellectually superior, you sure have a difficult time with reading comprehension and answering a very simple question.
As I have already pointed out, Ward was calling out GGG for wanting to fight smaller guys such as Canelo and Cotto--who happened to be MW champions at the time. Yet, Ward offers to fight a smaller opponent in both Floyd and GGG at weights that give him the upper hand. That is a chickenshyt move right there. Especially when he knew damn well he wasn't coming down in weight to fight either one of them.
How do you know what Ward said or did? My point is if you look at the patterns of conduct by a fighter...its more logical than assuming something attributed to them is necessarily true. Maybe Ward was drunk (probably not) maybe he was joking, maybe he did not say it, or said it out of anger...You haven't a clue.
If tomorrow Margarito was quoted as saying in his next fight he will box, use the jab, avoid unnecessary conflict using his boxing skills would you believe it? probably not. But the hate for a guy makes something absurd believable doesn't it?
Let me tell you something one could write a new version of Dr Seuss' Green eggs and Ham for A hypothetical Ward GGG fight it could have Ward saying, "I will beat GGG in the rain, on a train, through a drain, indeed I like beating GGG, sam sam I am! GGG has nothing that suggests he is at Ward's level, or fights in a style that Ward would have problems with which is why this heresay is so ridiculous.

Originally posted by GhostofDempsey View PostIt's a fair assessment. Each fighter wants to leverage an advantage over the other, that I get. But, for Ward to say he would come down to 160 for Floyd but not for GGG, is like GGG saying he will go to 175 for Kovalev but not 168 for Ward.
Ward has meticulously navigated his short career to leverage any advantages an opponent might gain. Thus, he stalled his career for years and wasted his prime over endless negotiations and lawsuits with his promoter. When a man really wants to fight, he fights. Ward has always been salty about his career, and he himself lost interest in the sport of boxing years ago.
A journeyman by the name of Darnell Boone is the one man who has fought both Kovalev and Ward and sparred with GGG. Having first hand experience with all three he felt GGG would have beaten Ward had they met. While that is purely speculation on his part, he is the most qualified to make that assessment.

So now we've reached the point where we make excuses for our favorite fighters? Maybe he was drunk, angry, sniffing glue? Sorry, but you cannot allow one fighter a pass for bold statements while crucifying another. The double-standards are weak.
To say that GGG is not on Ward's level is another biased and unfounded argument. When you consider Ward's best win was a dirty scrap with Froch that went the distance, I beg to differ. Andre "Son of Judges" Ward's style is dependent upon dirty tactics, clinching, favoritism from judges and referees, and his reluctance to fight overseas. Mr. 32-0 gets way too much credit for winning fights he is supposed to win...a smaller brawler in Abraham who fights with his face, Kessler who he opened up four cuts to his face using elbows and head-butts, Dawson who came down from 168 and was weight drained, and a gift in the first Kov fight followed by continuous and unchallenged low-blows in the rematch.
Die on your sword defending Son of Judges, but don't try to put up a smoke and mirrors show to convince us of his greatness. When the smoke clears and the mirrors are shattered, you left with a dirty, boring, fighter whose resume would be ripped to shreds if it were anyone else's resume. If GGG had the same names on his resume, you would all be ridiculing him and his wins, calling them bums and hype jobs.

You and Daggum should get a room. You literally explained away every victory Ward ever achieved which makes you absurd and certainly illogical. You can explain away any fight sir! "Foreman would have murdered Ali he was hot and emotionally distraught"... "Tunney got a long count against Dempsey, Tunney was a fraud", and on and on we could go.
You are usually in my estimation a decent poster, so let me just pounce lightly here: No matter how much you may detest a fighter it is silly to explain away more than a fight or two at most... If you thought about it you would probably see how silly this is...as in thought about it minus the haterade. GGG has never fought near the level of comp Ward fought...so you proceed to explain away all Ward's victoriesCome on Dempsey!!
