How come so many people dislike Joe Cortez?

I personally think he's a damn fine ref. He doesn't allow a lot of clinching and holding which is perfectly fine with me. He knows exactly when to stop fights, plus he constantly tells fighters to keep them above the belt and if they don't, he's taking points.

But he doesn't seem really liked. Why is this?

Uhhhh.. He still refs from time to time.

Not big time fights, but he still refs small time fights here and there.

Cortez was a biased ref. Plus in the end of his career he was to present in the fights in a way that he was too distracting.
