Kovalev is usually trash talking opponents talking about finishing their careers and giving them death stares. But he has been unusually subdued throughout the buildup to this fight. Smiling at Canelo calling him bro and shaking his hand all the time.

He's getting paid. Duva doesn't pay fighters well. In Kov's first big fight, the 1st Ward fight didn't sell well and the split was 50/50%. In the 2nd fight, he reportedly gave up his purse and only received PPV proceeds.. which mostly bombed again. I'm sure Kovalev is not poor, but for a fighter with 1 foot into retirement, getting a big money fight from Canelo is a dream come true. He'll likely double or triple his career winnings.
