For every inch on your arms it is usual to gain 10 to 12 pounds in bodyweight..

I just read that in a body building book. It is talking about the biceps. This seems a little odd

I know... it's really confusing. The next bit said something like so if youre having trouble with biceps try and put on bodyweight or something

IMO, you would have to be insane to ask about bodybuilding, weightlifting, or fitness on this board. There are fewer than a dozen people who've posted in the year I've been here who appear to know WTF they're talking about when it comes to weights, nutrition, or general fitness.

Generally speaking, yes, you will have trouble gaining mass on any given bodypart if you aren't adding mass overall. This is why squats are the foundation of bodybuilding routines; they work 75% of the muscles in your body and can be a great mass builder when applied to that end. 10 to 12 lbs per inch seems excessive to me. I know some skinny guys with good upper arms.

I'll let you in on a little secret, though: your TRICEPS are 2/3 of the muscles of your upper arm. Wanna fill out your sleeves? Work your triceps.

My suggestion is, go to and do some serious reading in the forums and learn some **** about weights and what they can -- and can't -- do for your body. Those guys know just as much (and in some cases, just as little :wank: ) about bodybuilding as anyone on this board knows about boxing.

Big arms alone won't do **** for your boxing, BTW.

That was a good post fraidy. But if you work for mass, you wont have the strength if you were training for strength, right?

Yes and no. It's possible to lift weights to gain mass, strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, coordination, explosiveness, or any combination of them. It depends on how you train. I could be up typing all night explaining the differences in training methods and the ends they achieve but I have other stuff to do.

well if your balanced adding 1 inch to your arms should also mean you have added 1 inch to your calves, 2 inches to your thighs, 3 inches to your chest, 1 inch to your neck etc etc
