lol, i just made a thread about the face-saver headgears, asking how the vision is.
but anyways, most people would say to improve your defense, instead of using a facesaver headgear.
true, it will protect the nose, but it's easy to feel too protected, thus, ending up in lazy defense. you'll probably get hit more, but without the nose injury. it will probably disrupt your vision more than regular headgears.
i've used the cheap model of the facesaver, the title classic face protector. and, damn, that thing kills your vision, makes it harder to block (because of the huge bar in front), and the thing just wont fit correctly. it moved around too much.
but i've never experienced the $99 versions, so they could be better.

i say get it now and work with it for awhile and discard it after you feel you have improved your defense drastically. who knows, you may even be able to spar that big puncher.

yeah, but seriously, if you're gonna use a facesaver, try real hard to not get lazy in your defense. that's what happened to me with the classic facesaver, whenever i would get tagged on the nose (which is blocked by the bar), i would say to myself "damn, i got hit, oh well, didnt hurt". now that's being lazy. if you do end up getting hit, just pretend it really hurts, and try not to get hit again.

I use the Everlast Full Coverage headgear -- the one with the chin pad, not the one with the bar -- and I've only had a few fat lips and bloody noses in the year that I've been boxing. I still get black eyes, though.I'm really happy with it; it really does work to protect your face. Every so often I'll use the open-face headgear just to make sure I'm not developing any bad habits. I had a mild break at the bridge of my nose with this headgear on, but that was from the headgear getting knocked sideways and then getting hit before I had a chance to straighten it.

people keep telling me that with this type of headgear when the bar gets hit it bends in to your face is that true?

i always use open face headgear and still havn't had any facial damage. I find a lower coverage headgear with excellent visibility will allow me to see the punches much better and so im not as likely to get caught with a huge one i dont see coming. I do use a tight open handed guard often but only because the people i spar have way more experience. It protects me very well but makes it harder for me to get my offence off.

ok guys i got it today in the mail(the facesaver), and the problem is is that its a little bigger than normal headguards! not fitting wise but just size wise, it fits perfect but its like a headguard thats twice the size of normal headguards, other than that its got the best padding ive seen on a headguard ever! so what do you guys think i should do? try it out and if im getting hit more what should i do? could it be because of the size of it? i am really confused
please post your thoughts and comments
