    Catch and Parry

How many of you guys use the catch and parry style?

knocking down someones jab (example: Vladmir Klitchko vs Sultan Ibragimov)

I havent seen many people using that style? And is it helpful?

I've just started sparring for the last 4-5 months, and i'm getting the hang

of it. To say honestly i've used that style so much, that my hand reaction

always makes me block my face, i've completely forgot using weaving.

The trainer at our gym only teachers the catch and parry.
We do very little to no weaving. I hold my hands high, like Juan Diaz but a bit further forward from there I can block, catch and parry all the punches i like.
It's a great style if you like to counter punch.

I am the same actually. My strength is being able to block big punches while standing on the spot. I obviously can't rely on that entirely, but it gives me a lot of confidence that I can fall back on it.

This might sound really deep and meaningful... but I know that my preferred style as a boxer reflects my personality. Does anyone else find the same?

i feel you do dawg. well what im sayin is, if i use the winky style defense, i am untouchable. there is no way you can get through. like lately, i just get in that shell and move forward and pressure the motha ****a, but now, i dont wanna rely on it. i wanna be able to slip, dodge, weave n all that **** naw mean? my winky defense is sorta like the back up plan. the plan that cant fail.

For sure! I love being in a corner, yet still being the one to land the punches.

i like to catch the jab and counter it with a right hand but how could you not love slipping a punch? aside from a knockout, what could possibly be better than watching a gloved fist fly through a space that was just occupied by your head? seeing your opponent with their arm slung out in the air, swinging hopelessly away at a target they can't hit, you just can't top that.

                i mix it up

i use the winky guard and usually parry or absorb punches on my gloves but occasionally i will keep my tight guard and just bend my knees to slip under a punch and counter to the body

or i step outside a jab as they are throwing it and counter with a right

or i weave under hooks and counter with a straight and an uppercut or a hook

but yeah no matter what i always keep my winky guard, even when i slip or duck

I never stay in the same place so I can get hit I would dance around and dominate others with my quick hands. Quick 1-2 and out again and repeat. No one can time me or parry as I am out that quick. **** standing there waiting to get hit to hit back. You have to lead off to win.

i've never faced someone faster then me, but i guess that could be one flaw

                    from catching and parrying.
