My coach said I should rethink joining the gym and to just save my money. Should I just quit? If I keep going what kind of style should I develop considering I have no speed or power?

Thanks for all feedback and advice
very few ppl are natural fighters, just bcuz you arent one of them doesnt mean you should quit. it just means you are gonna have to work really hard like most of us.

power comes down to mainly 4 things, technique, speed, size and strenght.

work on your technique first hand bcus its what matters most.

shadowbox alot. focus on pushing off with your foot and pivoting when you punch, then focus on turning your hips over, then turning your upper body and finally on throwing short hooks and uppercuts and straight jabs and right hands. in the end put it all together, there is much more details to throwing a perfect punch but thats the basics in terms of power.

when you feel your body is well cordinated and you got the shadowboxing down take it to the heavy bag. learn distance and how to make contact with the target, you want to punch through the target but not too far. theres lots to go in on when it comes to making contact to the target, but the most important is to punching through the target properly.

then theres handspeed and strenght (nothing you can do to make your frame bigger). i dont have the energy to get into that, you can figure out strenght atleats on your own. legs, core and upper back/shoulder region is what generates most power.

U can work on your speed and power with plyometrics and clever weight training, also keep working on your technique and u should improve....
Do alot of explosive training man. Remember and do good stretching afterwards too, i feel like it really makes a difference.

But u are only gonna get so much stronger and quicker... Punchers are born more or less

Dont get disheartened though, if ur fundamentally sound and smart u can still bag the wins. Also get your timing spot on, it will trump speed.

You want power? Simple. Work on the heavy bag and technique. Combine that with some form of strength training that includes plyometrics(don't do these if you're a beginner) and you'll be fine. But don't get hung up on it either because when you do, something more important gets neglected in the process(i.e. conditioning)
