    Jab Confusion

Hey guys, just started boxing about two weeks ago. About 2 days ago my trainer emphasized that my jab should land with the same amount of power as my cross. Now that's where I get really confused, I'ts hard for me to visualize getting anywhere close to the same power as my cross.

There's also a huge language barrier between me and my couch, he only speaks Spanish. I can understand a few words, but when he describes I get completely lost. From what I saw he wants me to lean slightly in to my jab, but not to the point where my head is over my left foot. Also to add more torso rotation almost to the point of being perpendicular to my target. I hope someone can help me better visualize and understand what my coach is wanting me to do.

Thanks in advance for taking your time to help me out!

    try youtube videos for visualizing..
MY PERSONAL OPINION THAT MANY MAY STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH:

    1. all power comes from rotation.
    2. a full motion (thrown with power intended) jab is no exception.
    3. first, learn to throw a lead hook. (at home, or your instructor will surely disagree.... "what u triyng to run before u learn to walk blah blah" and yes im ready to get hated by other posters online >_>)
    4. ^reason being: it exaggerates the rotating motion of a punch. once you get that, you can translate it into any punch..
    5. throwing a dodgeball/swinging a bat helps (or at least throwing dodgeballs all my teenage years naturally taught me how to...) your body understand how the power is generated...

again, try to youtube for visualizing... or simply ask your instructor to show you instead of tell u. practice infront of mirror. form > speed for now, until u can do it without thinking about it.

its hard to describe everything online, best watch/observe.. last thing: keep in mind its a fullbody thing. legs->torso->arms->fist

It's not possible for your jab to have the same impact as your right cross as your right cross has your body put in to it due to the rotation of your leg.

Your real problem is the language barrier.

you'll have plenty of power if you turn the shot over and push in off of the back foot/leg while keeping the elbow in. not the same power as the right hand, but that's simply a ridiculous standard to tell a kid.............. Rockin'

Yea tell me about it, but he's a great ex-pro boxer with the only credibility in my small town.

Also thanks for the video, really great seeing those fast jabs.

Yea, i've been working on pushing with the back leg today. It may be also, that i'm not putting enough power in my jab to compensate for a better cross. I'll put a video of my mitt/bag work Monday and see what you guys here think.

                  Thanks

That's my thought exactly! But my options are none in my small town, between wannabe boxing "experts" that charge an arm and a leg with no credibility, or my current coach with 54 pro fights. I'll take my chances and learn a little Spanish.

                    Thanks
