    Boxing as a Stress-Buster?

For the last 2 and a half years my life has been very stressful. even to the point where i wished everything would end. recently i was talking to one of my friends and he suggested that i should learn boxing and get active. now i have been a fan of the sweet science for several years and i love watching/talking about boxing, but i never had the opportunity to learn the sport. so my question is that anybody here ever used Boxing as a way to relief stress? would you recommend boxing as a stress buster?

Yes definitely. Any time you can get into a flow state and don't have time to think is beneficial, it gives an overclocked brain a rest. Combat sports are great for this. You should also be meditating at home, even if its just 20 mins every few days. You can turn those big worries into little ones, its just a matter of perspective.

For me personally I can say it helped. It gives you a way to express those inner frustrations about work, life et cetera that can contribute to stress. It's a way to blow of steam.

I'd say that any form of exercise can work to relieve stress. Yes, boxing can do this as well, however, boxing can be a pretty stressful sport too if you're getting serious about it (actively sparring, competing, making weight, aspiring to turn pro, ect.). Some people thrive under the pressure that boxing brings and others (such as myself) can never get over the anxiety and nervousness and have to find a way to use that to our benefit (such as Mike Tyson). So, it really depends on the person and how invested you become in the sport.

I would definitely say boxing has helped me. I was in a similar situation to you op and the moment I started boxing everything changed. Got fitter, more relaxed, happier and also more sociable. Like the poster above says boxing can be a stressful sport but I find that helps. It keeps your mind off of other issues. And helps you focus more. Also it can help your work ethic too. I go to uni and work very hard since I have to study around boxing so I work harder in shorter spaces of time than other people while still having a good social life. Definitely go and start boxing. If you find a good gym and just work hard at it you won't look back

Agree with what others have said. My lifestyle and overall mood greatly improved once I really started to get into training. At a certain point I was obsessed/addicted and would get stressed when I couldn't train when I wanted to. I've lost that obsession over the years, but training definitely still puts me in a good mood every time. Even if you never get into training seriously, just hitting the heavy bag can be a great stress reliever imo.
