    Tommy Morrisons Left Hook

I would like to know if anyone has any training tips on throwing an explosive left hook like tommy morrison did. Is there any training footage or specific technique he used? When I watch his videos, he springs forward but I can't tell if he is waiting to counter or what he is seeing when he decides to throw his ko left hook.

What can you do to develop explosive power to throw a powerful left hook like that?

I think Morrison had natural power. You can throw the most perfect of hooks, but without the power it makes no difference.

Ok my next question then. And it's an age old one.

What IS natural punching power? I feel like that is a mind **** (pardon my language). If you allow yourself to believe other people punch harder because they are more talented, you may never realize you too have punching power waiting to be uncovered because you don't train hard enough.

Tommy Morrison was also RIPPED, he had muscle on top of muscle. Don't you think that contributed to punching power?

It seems like muscle is underrated. I am 174, and I am pretty well built, im only 5'9" but I can hit pretty hard. I think it has to do with my body build and how I have been doing lots of pushups and pullups and working my butt off in the gym building my muscles up, as much as it has to do with my technique. I see other guys in my gym who have arms like toothpicks, and while they have good technique and are quick, they don't hit hard.

I think Tommy probably trained his left hook exclusively, and I'd like to know what kind of trianing techniques he used to develop his ability to explosively leap forward and land his left hook with that much power. I'd also like to know how he set it up.

Keep in mind, it was no secrete that Morrison used steroids. Some guys just have natural power. Like that chubby kid at a school yard that has that crazy strength.

I think everyone has the ability to be powerful. When I hit, I incorporate a little psychology into it, and release a bit of rage. I often wonder if the hardest hitters have the most internal rage, hurt, depression, whatever you want to call it.

man, the left hook done tommy morrison style. roy jones etc etc. it's all about being a natural athlete... I can jump out the gym, 35-40 inch vertical last i checked weighing around 240 while doing it. Jumping left hook is my bread and butter knock out punch, i landed it today in sparring and got a k.o. Was a hard sparring day etc coach wanted to test us, since i'm new.

Some boxers got it and some don't. Guys like Paul Williams and Hearns looked like string beans, Pavlik too, but when they landed - BOOM

I know I have my best days boxing when I am depressed and a little pissed off at the world.

I think he learned it during his time as a pupil of legendary heavyweight Rocky Balboa.

Actually in boxing through history lanky fighters are known to be extremely powerful, Robinson, Hearns, Arguello, Saddler, Lopez, etc...
IMO the key to Morrison's left hook was his explosive power, it came with no "tells", a non-telegraphic punch.
