No love for old school RPGs like Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Shadowrun, Breath of Fire, or Phantasy Star?

Or newly retro titles like Final Fantasy Tactics, Skies of Arcadia, Vagrant Story, or Lunar?

I'm a diverse RPG gamer so I like a lot of JRPGs as well as western ones, so of the modern generation I'd say Skyrim, Lost Odyssey, Dark Souls, and The Witcher II are easily at the top of the pack.

Also, 'Borderlands' isn't an RPG. It's a shooter with an RPG-like leveling system.

Just because a game has a certain RPG level up element to it doesn't mean it's an RPG. 'Castlevania : Curse of Darkness' immediately springs to mind. Standard level-up system based on experience points but it was still a hack and slash action game.

Skies of Arcadia was such an awesome game. Wish they would make a sequel to it.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Xenogears. Awesome battle system and complex story that wasn't for the regular joe.

Happy to see another fan of 'Skies of Arcadia'. When I first got that game I ended up getting really sick because the day prior I had spent all day long in my neighbor's wet basement putting up new insulation, but I didn't mind at all because it kept me out of school and playing that game for a solid week.

Good call on 'Xenogears' as well.

Another one I'm surprised nobody has mentioned is the 'Ogre Battle' series. Especially 'The March of the Black Queen'.

'Super Mario RPG' was also quite good.

I could never get into Lost Odyssey. I tried and failed.

Was it a 'Lost Odyssey' issue or do you just not like JRPGs?

It was Lost Odyssey itself, I love many JRPGs. Maybe I just didn't get far enough into it to get ****** in, but I was just bored out of my mind.
