Maybe I'm worng but I don't think the Euros were that big of a deal until the 90s. Idk just an impression I get. 96 was my first proper tournament where I watched the majority of matches as a kid

I was turning 10 but I can remember that really vividly.

But I also remember Ireland in USA '94 as well and Ray Houghton scoring vs Italy and Packie Bonner spilling the shot through his gloves vs Holland. As a kid I probably would have followed the Irish national team as much as England.

I follow England but it's tongue in cheek really.

I find the antipathy from my Irish family, Welsh, and Scottish people too good to pass up now. They deserve England to win a major tournament.

I remember Italia 90 being marketed absolutely everywhere. Those little size 2 footballs with the mascot stick man thing. All the coke cans with it on too

96 was the best man you're right. The weather was beautiful that summer too. Alan Shearer did a good docu for it a few years back, interviewing all the old boys, Venables etc, was nostalgic af mate. Seeing the old umbro gear from that time gets me too.
