Mexico World Cup star Giovani Dos Santos still has a long way to go before winning the confidence of Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp.

Dos Santos hasn't really had a look-in at Tottenham since his ?.6million move from Barcelona two years ago, although he wasn't helped by an ankle injury. He was loaned out to Ipswich Town in the second half of the 2008/2009 season, and then to Galatasaray last campaign.

Despite his failure to make an impact at Spurs, the 21-year-old was one of Mexico's best players at the World Cup. He was also one of Tottenham's few positives during a 4-1 friendly defeat by Villarreal on Thursday.

Nonetheless, Redknapp still believes that Dos Santos has much to do before making his mark at White Hart Lane.

The Mail on Sunday quotes Redknapp saying, "If he gets his head right and works hard he has outstanding ability - but it's up to him.

"I've told him to get fit, stay fit and he could have a big season here. He can be a top player if he wants. It's whether he has the dedication and the desire. He lacked that in the past but hopefully he'll get his head right and show what he can do."
