Multiple people have been shot and some are feared dead after ******* erupted at a 4th of July parade in the wealthy Chicago suburb of Highland Park on Monday, officials and authorities said.
Local TV outlet , citing unidentified law enforcement sources, said at least two people were dead and multiple others injured.
Witnesses they saw at least three bloodied bodies covered in blankets on the ground and five others injured nearby.
Authorities have not officially reported any casualties.
The gunman is still on the loose, law enforcement sources told The Post.
A witness told WGN TV that he saw the gunman standing on the sidewalk as the ******* erupted, saying “he was very military style, methodical in the way he was crouched and shooting.”
Footage from the scene showed hundreds of parade-goers — some visibly bloodied — fleeing the parade route as the gunshots rang out about 10 minutes after the parade began at 10 a.m.
Chairs, baby strollers and blankets were among the items left behind as people fled.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said on Twitter it is assisting Highland Park Police “with a shooting in the area of the Independence Day parade route.”
