    The Miracle of Childbirth

Following the birth of my second child on Friday morning it's time for me to bow my head and give thanks.

Thanks to the nursing staff, with their hard work and dedication, their experience and their knowledge, their patience and their reassurance.

Thanks to the obstetrician, with her thousands of hours of study, her years of experience, her knowledge and her skills.

Thanks to the paediatrician with his schooling and knowledge.

Thanks to the scholars who spent decades researching ways of making childbirth safer and child-rearing less fraught with hidden dangers of disease and infection.

Thanks to medical science for changing childbirth from an endeavour with a death rate of 40% to one in which virtually 100% of mothers and children are going to live and be healthy, for helping to reduce the suffering and mortality associated with childbirth and producing the interventions and medications to make the most difficult part of a woman's life just a little more tolerable.

And thanks most of all to my beautiful wife who displayed courage beyond reckoning in the face of the pain and fatigue and indignity of this most vulnerable part of her life. I love you and I am forever in awe of your stoicism and strength.

Women must give birth in pain and agony because Eve ate an apple from the three of knowledge.

            Cong**** squeal. Well done.

I thought we'd have an atheist baptism where we all chant "Praise Dawkins" while dancing to Rocking and Rolling devil music and dip his head in a mixture of alcohol, dirty water and the blood of True Christian babies that we secretly harvest, all presided over by a massive screen playing a loop of monkey **** (after all they're just like us!).
